Gaelbhratach – Promoting Irish in Scoil Náisiúnta na Carraige

The Gaelbhratach scheme supports schools in promoting the Irish language in fun and meaningful ways. Schools earn the Gaelbhratach flag by completing a variety of targets across music, art, sport, events, and more — all with the aim of encouraging the everyday, informal use of Irish throughout the school community and beyond.

Scoil na Carraige is very proud to be the process of achieving their first Gaelbhratach flag later in the 2025-2026 school year. The initiative has truly inspired everyone to use neamhfhoirmiúil Gaeilge (informal Irish) around the school. We make learning Irish playful and engaging —playing Irish games, singing songs such as Amhrán na bhFiann, using simple phrases throughout the day, and celebrating all things Gaeilge in creative ways.

Each March, we celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge to tie in with Lá le Pádraig and our much-anticipated Lá Glas! The celebrations include a St. Patrick’s Parade and a special Ceolchoirm where every class performs as Gaeilge.

We also have a dedicated Coiste — a committee made up of pupils from each class who act as the student voice, sharing creative ideas for promoting Irish and helping to plan fun activities throughout the year. Táimid an-bhródúil as ár dteanga agus ár scoil! Mar a deir our school motto – Ní neart go cur le Chéile!

Here is our Gaelbhratach Coiste for 2025 – 2026

The Coiste plays a vital role in leading our Gaelbhratach activities, that Irish is seen, heard and spoken throughout the school. We are currently in Year 2 of the Gaelbhratach scheme and are enjoying using Gaeilge in our day-to-day activities here in Scoil Náisiúnta na Carraige.
